This article explains how your Cubby-built website works, where each kind of change is made, and how to get those changes live. You do not need any technical background to follow it.
The three pieces: Cubby, the Storefront, and the CMS
Your website is powered by three separate tools that work together. Most confusion about website changes comes from making a change in one place and expecting it to show up from another, so it helps to know what each one does.
A simple way to think about it is a storage facility. Cubby is the back office, where all your business information lives. The Storefront is the rental counter, which takes that information and presents it to customers so they can rent. The CMS is the building itself: the signs, paint, and layout people see when they walk in.
1) Cubby
This is where you run your facilities day-to-day: units, tenants, rates, promotions, payments, and facility details. Anything you change here (like a unit price or a promotion) flows to your website automatically through the Storefront.
2) The Storefront (marketing.cubbystorage.com)
You may hear this called "Marketing" or "the Storefront." They mean the same place.
The Storefront is what turns your Cubby data into the rental pieces that can be used on your website: the unit list, a facility map, prices, the "Rent Now" buttons, and the checkout.
These pieces are called Cubby components. You can check the following article out for more details: Setting up storefront components on a website.
The Storefront is also where your Google Analytics and Google Ads tracking IDs are entered (under the Analytics tab). You can check the following article out for more details: Conversion tracking.
If you have more than one Storefront (for example, one per brand or region), each one has its own API key. An API key is simply an ID that tells your website which Storefront to pull units and prices from. Think of it like a mailing address: if the website has the wrong address, it shows information from the wrong Storefront.
3) The CMS (cms.cubbystorage.com)
The CMS, also called the site editor or site builder, is where you design and edit the website.
It is built on a platform called Duda. This is where you change page text, photos, colors, layouts, menus, and city or market pages.
The Cubby components from the Storefront are placed inside your CMS pages, so the CMS controls where the rental pieces appear and how the page around them looks, but not the prices or units inside them.
Where do I make my change?
What you want to change | Where to change it |
Unit prices, unit types, underlying promotions, availability
Facility hours, address, or phone used for rentals and tenant communications
Checkout, which pricing groups & which units appear on the site | Storefront (marketing.cubbystorage.com) |
Google Analytics (GA4) and Google Ads conversion IDs
Page text, photos, colors, layout, menus, new pages | CMS (cms.cubbystorage.com) |
Facility-specific numbers, text, locations, photos, and descriptions on each location page | Your facility Collection (see below) |
Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, page titles, redirects, seo titles & descriptions | CMS |
Your domain name and DNS records | Your domain provider (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.) |
Two kinds of content in the CMS
Inside the CMS, content is edited in one of two ways. Knowing which one you are looking at saves a lot of time. You can check the following article out for more details: Edit your website's content and design.
Direct content
Most of your site is direct content: headlines, paragraphs, images, buttons, colors, and layouts. You click on it in the editor and change it right there.
Log in at cms.cubbystorage.com and open your site.
Go to the page you want to edit.
Click the text, image, or section you want to change and make your edit.
Click Republish when you are done (see Publishing your changes below).
IMPORTANT: If you see this button, it means you're attempting to edit connected content. Changing it will cause the same information to appear on all facility pages.
Connected content (your facility Google Sheet)
Each of your locations has its own page, and those pages share one design. Instead of building every location page by hand, the information that changes from location to location (name, address, phone, description, photos) comes from a Google Sheet. In the CMS, this sheet is called a collection.
Here is how the sheet maps to your site:
Each row in the sheet is one facility, and each row becomes one facility page.
Each column is one piece of information, such as the facility name or a photo. The column header tells the website where to put it.
To change connected content:
Open your facility Google Sheet.
Find the row for the facility and the column for the information you want to change.
Make the change in that cell.
In the CMS, open the collection and click Refresh Data in the bottom-right corner. This pulls your new information in right away.
Republish the site.
Rules for the Google Sheet
Most problems with facility pages come from one of these:
Do not rename or delete column headers. The website finds information by the column name. If the name changes, that spot on the page goes blank or breaks.
Check you are editing the right column. Some facilities have several photo columns (for example, more than one g.facilityimg column), each tied to a different spot on the page. If you are not sure which is which, you can ask us at support@cubbystorage.com.
Upload photos to the CMS first. Never paste an image link from Google Drive, Dropbox, or another website. Upload the image to the media manager in the CMS, open it in a new tab, copy that link, and paste it into the sheet. Links from anywhere else tend to break.
Do not edit facility information directly on the page. It can be done by disconnecting the element, but then that content becomes the same on every location page.
Publishing your changes
Changes in the CMS are saved as you make them, but visitors will not see them until you republish the site. If something you changed is not showing up, republishing is the first thing to check.
After republishing, your own browser may still show the old version for a little while. Open the site in a private or incognito window, or on your phone, to see the latest version.
Changes we can make for you
You have full access to edit your site yourself, but if you run into any issues, you can reach out at support@cubbystorage.com.
Our support team makes most website changes on request, normally within 24 hours.
To get these done quickly, please make sure to include the following information:
The page you'd like to make changes to (a link is best).
What exactly you'd like changed on the page.
The exact new text, link, or images you'd like to use.
Requests with more than 10 changes at once, and larger redesigns, are handled by our partner marketing.storage. You can submit those through the Make the Changes For Me form at marketing.storage/website-updates. The same page also has a step-by-step tutorial if you would rather make changes yourself.
Getting access to the site editor
To give someone on your team access to the CMS, send us their full name and email address, and tell us which website URLs they need access to. They will receive an email invitation to set up their login.
Frequently asked questions
I made a change, but it is not showing on my website. Why?
Make sure you republished the site. Then check in a private or incognito window, since your browser may be showing an older saved copy.
I changed a price or promotion in Cubby, and it is not on my website. Why?
Prices and promotions come from Cubby through your Storefront, not from the CMS. If you have more than one Storefront, your website may be connected to a different Storefront than the one you updated. Contact us and we will check which Storefront your site is pulling from. You can check the following article out for more details: Understanding the Pricing Section.
I changed a facility photo in the Google Sheet, and now it is broken or did not change.
Check that you edited the right photo column, and that the link came from the CMS media manager (not Google Drive or another site). Then click Refresh Data on the collection and republish.
My phone number button shows (123) 123 1234. What happened?
This placeholder appears when the phone number cell in the Google Sheet was changed or cleared, when the button was disconnected from the sheet, or when an older version of the site was restored. Contact us, and we will reconnect it.
I added a new location to the Google Sheet. Where is its page?
New rows do not always create a page automatically. Click Refresh Data on the collection, then check that the page exists. If it does not, contact us.
How do I connect my domain to my website?
Add these records at your domain provider:
Type | Host / Name | Value |
CNAME | www | s.multiscreensite.com |
A | @ | 35.172.94.1 |
A | @ | 100.24.208.97 |
Remove any other A records on @, and any AAAA or CAA records, since they block the site or its security certificate.
I added the DNS records, but nothing changed. Where should I be editing them?
DNS records must be edited wherever your domain's nameservers point, which is not always where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at GoDaddy may be managed in Cloudflare. You can check your nameservers at whatsmydns.net (NS lookup).
I use Cloudflare and my site shows a connection or security error.
In Cloudflare, set the A and CNAME records to DNS only (grey cloud). The orange cloud setting causes these errors.
How long do DNS changes take?
Usually a few hours, but it can take up to 48 hours.
My site says "Site Not Found."
Your DNS is working, but the domain has not been assigned to your site yet. Contact us, and we will finish connecting it.
I get a "Domain already in use" message.
Another website on the platform is holding your domain. You can release it by adding the TXT record shown on that screen at your domain provider, then clicking Verify & Free Up Domain.
Can I use a subdomain like rent.mydomain.com?
Yes. Add one CNAME record with the host set to the subdomain (for example, rent) pointing to s.multiscreensite.com. No A records are needed.
How do I change a page's URL or set up a redirect?
To change a regular page's URL, go to Page Settings → Page URL. To redirect an old link, go to Site Settings → URL Redirect, enter the old path and the new path, choose 301 Permanent, and republish. Facility pages share the same URL prefix (such as /facility/), so that part cannot be changed for just one location.
How do I change the page titles and descriptions that show in Google?
In the CMS, open the page's SEO settings. On facility pages, the title and description can be connected to sheet columns (like city or facility name) so each location gets its own.
Can I use promo or referral codes on my Storefront?
Promo and referral codes are not supported on the Storefront. Promotions set up in Cubby are applied automatically. You can check the following article out for more details: Managing your discounts (with Discount Strategies).
Can I send customers a link straight to a specific unit?
Yes. Reservation and checkout links that pre-select a unit are available as separate links you can share in ads, emails, or texts. You can check the following article out for more details: Reservations.
My website was not built by Cubby. Can I still use Cubby rentals on it?
Yes, simply add the Cubby script from your Storefront to your website's Head HTML, and paste in the component snippets where you want them. Menus, buttons, and page content are still edited in your own website platform. You can check the following article out for more details: Setting up storefront components on a website.
How do I add Google Analytics and Google Ads tracking?
Enter your GA4 Measurement ID and Google Ads conversion details in marketing.cubbystorage.com -> Analytics. See our Conversion tracking article for full steps. Do not add the same ID in the CMS as well, or your data will be counted twice.
How do I add Google Tag Manager or a Meta (Facebook) Pixel?
Add the Meta Pixel inside your Google Tag Manager container and publish it. Then add your Tag Manager container ID in the CMS under SEO & Settings -> Google Tools -> Google Tag Manager and republish. You can also send us your container ID, and we will add it.
I see a Google Analytics ID on my site that I do not recognize.
G-2SVMV22G2M is Cubby's own tracking ID, which loads on every Storefront and is required for the Cubby components to work. It does not affect your own Google Analytics, and your data still goes to your ID.
Can you update my chatbot, review widget, or other third-party tool?
We do not have access to any third-party accounts. Get the updated code from your provider and send it to us, and we will add it to your site.
I am getting strange or fake form submissions.
Entries with fake names, example.com emails, 555 numbers, or odd code in the name field are automated spam, not real customers. They do not need follow-up. If this is causing you operational issues, send us a few examples, and we will look into it.
How do I change the photos on my Google Business Profile?
Your website sends your business name, address, and hours to Google, but not photos. Change photos at business.google.com -> Your location -> Photos. These can take a few hours to update.
Google Search Console is showing errors. Is my site broken?
Many Search Console items are suggestions rather than errors, and some do not apply to storage businesses (such as shipping and return details). Send us the specific item if you would like us to check it.
I want to rename my business. Is that a website change?
Your business name in Cubby (used for billing, tenant messages, and facility records) is separate from the name shown on your website. You can let us know if you'd like to change either of those.
